Using a power inverter to charge my computers

I am considering using a 300 watt power inverter (Whistler pp300ac) in my 2004 LTV to charge our laptops while driving. My greatest concern is blowing a fuse. I have two sources of dc power, one on the dash (15 amp) and one in the coach (7 amp). If anyone has experience with this I would appreciate hearing from you.

RE: GPS and B's

I just purchased the Streets and Trips with GPS locator. I have only used it as a GPS while driving once so far, but it did a great job. I purposely went off course several times. Each time it warned me only one time, and then immediately rerouted from my present location. I like the fact that I can create and store multiple legs of a long trip, call up the appropriate trip when I get close to the location for which I need guidance, and then put the unit away until I need it again. The largest negative is while using it a hand-held unit is much more comfortable, and my wife has already told me "I'm not going to drive across the country with a computer sitting on my lap!!!". Oh, almost forgot. Best Buy has this on sale for $49.99, a discount from the original price of $79.99.

RE: Generator/Frig question

I apologize for my poorly phrased question. I really wanted to know, when using the generator, if the frig should be run using the 12v setting or the 110 setting. Sorry for the wording and thanks for your responses.

Generator/Frig question

This winter while running my generator I thought of ways to put it under load. If I were to run the frig for this purpose would I use the 12v or 110 setting on my Norcold three-way? Thanks

RE: GPS with Laptop

Hi, I found this thread and realize the last posting was some time ago, but since I just purchased the Streets and Trips I now have a question. On a multi-stop trip, if I begin using the gps function after a number of stops does the locator route me from where ever I am or does it try to reroute to the beginning point? It seems logical that if I plug into the usb port between stops 10 and 11, it will simply begin the routing directions forward to 11 and on from there. Is that how it works? Thanks, Ron Adams

RE: Need assistance w/ Arizona itinerary this July

Hi, I have visited most of the locations you have suggested, and I have a few suggestions. As long as you are visiting the north rim of the GC, I would not even travel to the south rim. From Sedona (factoring in the time to take down and set up camp) to the north rim would be a full day. On the north rim I have dry camped (tent) in the national forest outside of the park boundary. There are many places to do this, and the motorhome would make dry camping for one night trivial. If you drive to Canyon de Chelly but skip the truck drive down the river bed you will be missing most of the reason to go there. Consider that, the day which includes this stop will allow for little driving on that day. Once you visit Walnut Canyon (a must see in my opinion) you would find Montezuma's Castle rather anticlimactic. Besides that I think if you do stop at MC you would have great difficulty getting to the airport on time. Again, this is only my opinion, but it looks like your plans will require you to rush more and view less than you anticipate. Have fun,

RE: So, how exactly does the shower/drainage work in a B?

Hi Dave in Delaware, Our LTV has the "drop down" sink, and it is just fine. The shower curtain covers everything other than the toilet and allows for the doors to be lest open for more space. We have not had water anyplace other than the floor of the bathroom. We have found it to be "no muss, no fuss". After we turn the water on the wand, we close the sink so that we have more room. Last summer we were on the road for six consecutive weeks. I used the shower at least every other day, my wife showered every morning, and judging from our campground neighbors reaction I don't think we smelled toooo bad. Maybe they were just being polite, but we both felt that our hygiene was just fine. We both agreed that we preferred our shower to those in the campgrounds because we always knew who used it last.

RE: Sprinter service in Anchorage, Ak

Hi TourN, Yes, we are most definitely ready to make our trip to Alaska. Don't let my post prevent you from looking at the Sprinter, or any B, if you are still considering purchasing. My experience, even for finding service, with our B is beyond good. We love traveling in our B, and I have never driven a better performing vehicle than the MB diesel Sprinter. The economy makes it easy to justify "running around town" in it just because it is fun to drive, especially if you need to "wait in the car". Last year we covered 14000 miles on one trip, and averaged 23.9 miles per gallon, and had to find only one service center along the way because I only change the oil every 6000 to 8000 miles. We have the LTV and have never regretted our decision. Ron

RE: Sprinter service in Anchorage, Ak

Hi Huck, Your comments are very consistent with the impression I got after talking to them on the phone. They suggested that with an appointment I could expect to get my service done "within a couple of days". I subsequently had a great call for the dealership in Fairbanks. The service manager said no appointment was necessary, they would take me in when I got there, and I would be on my way within an hour. He sounded like a great guy, and even said that he would see to it that they had the proper filters in stock. I sure hope the words translate into action. My mileage will only be about 4500 miles at that point, but with only another 7500 before I get home, a change of oil at that point will work out just fine. Thanks for responding. Ron

RE: Sprinter service in Anchorage, Ak

Hi Tour N, Thanks for the information. I will contact them soon. We drive a 2004 Leisure Travel Van, and love it! Last summer (our first year of ownership) we took only one trip, but enjoyed ever day spent touring in it. Of course, since it was only a 9 week 14000 mile trip we perhaps have not had enough experience to offer an opinion. Addressing a different thread, but one somewhat related, I presently use an independent auto service provider in my home town for my LTV. He does a very professional job, and since he has all of the proper software and relevant specifications for my vehicle, I don't see the concern some of you are expressing regarding the servicing of your MB diesel. It may be that your "local" shop does not have trained personnel, but if they have the hardware and software I don't see the problem. Now, warranty work is obviously different, but I don't see the problem with simple maintenance work.

Sprinter service in Anchorage, Ak

We will be visiting Alaska this summer, and it looks like I will be in need of an oil change while passing through Anchorage. Has anyone out there had a service on their MB diesel at a service center in Anchorage, and, if so, would you recommend them?

RE: A Winter Camping Experience

Thanks for the interesting post. It also gives me another justification (I'm always looking for more of those) for investing in my generator.

Hi, My wife and I need your help. All of our mapping software tells us that, even with a limited stop at Chicken, we would not be able to drive from Dawson, Yukon to Tok, Alaska in one day? What are your experiences with this road? Ron

Best time to spend 45 days in Alaska

Hi Everyone, My wife and I will be trying to see most of Alaska in our Class B (LTV) this next summer. We can leave Arizona anytime this spring, need to attend a wedding in Sioux Falls, SD in late August, want to use full service campgrounds most nights, and want to miss the biting and stinging bug season. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ron
